Fort Canning Park is on a hill just above 60m high overlooking the bustling Orchard Road. Before becoming the residence of Sir Stamford Raffles, it was known as ‘Forbidden Hill’ in the Malay language as it was purportedly haunted and could have been the burial site of ancient Malay rulers.

An underground bunker was built in 1936 to function as the British headquarters during World War II. It was here on 15 February 1942 when the British made the decision to surrender to the Japanese. In 1992 the underground bunker was reopened as the Battle Box, housing wartime exhibits and simulations for the public. Within the park grounds, you can also visit the ASEAN Sculpture Garden, Fort Canning Green (The Old Christian Cemetery), Spice Garden, Archaeological Dig and Exhibition Area, just to name a few.

Aside from being a historic landmark, the lush greenery and expansive lawns at the park has made it a popular venue for outdoor performances and concerts such as Shakespeare in the Park, Ballet Under the Stars and many more.
