From a coconut and cotton plantation to streets lined with Peranakan-style shophouses, Joo Chiat’s history is as interesting as its variety of landmarks.
Though it had a sleazy reputation in the early 2000s with a high number of karaoke lounges and massage parlours, tight law enforcement has now transformed the area to one filled with emerging art galleries, chic boutique hotels and trendy eateries.
This conservation area stretches along Joo Chiat Road and part of East Coast Road. Oh yes, do not forget to visit the famous food stalls like the Katong Laksa!
